About

Why this thing exists.

I built Subtitles King because I needed subtitles on a video and every option I tried was either too expensive, too slow, or required signing up for a thing I'd cancel in a week.

What started as "let me just wire up Whisper" turned into a small tool with a pipeline (compress → transcribe → burn) and a free upload page. Then the MCP spec landed, and it became obvious that what most tools really need is a way to let an AI agent handle this whole flow on behalf of a user. So I shipped an MCP server in 260 lines of Go.

Subtitles King is free for most workloads. It's open source — you can self-host the MCP and the upload server on your own hardware. There's a Pro tier coming for people who need higher limits or an SLA, but the free tier isn't going anywhere.

If something's broken, tell me on X / Twitter and I'll fix it. Usually that day.
